As Director of Care you will direct and mentor staff to make excellence in patient-focused care a primary goal that is met consistently by promoting departmental continuing education. You will work with staff to ensure that care programs are delivered in a professional manner within budget allocation and in accordance with provincial standards, and that legal requirements dictated for the provision of nursing and other clinical services are strictly adhered to.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • 3 to 5 years working in management position in healthcare

  • Experience in a long-term care setting preferred.

  • RN, RPN or LPN with registration in good standing with the College of Nurses in Province of Employment

SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Ability to plan, direct and control the delivery of multi-faceted care services

  • Customer service oriented

  • Ability to maintain effective interpersonal and team relationships

  • Demonstrates conflict resolution skills

  • Demonstrates empathy and understanding of the needs of seniors and disabled persons

  • Ability to multi-task in a face-paced environment

  • Sound financial management skills and understanding of funding in a residential care setting

  • Computer literacy in a Windows environment, including email, basic word and excel

  • Extensive knowledge of the Community Care and Assisted Living Act regulations and legislation

  • Must be able to read, write, and verbally communicate effectively in English

Special Requirements:

  • Must be willing to work the hours necessary to ensure the effective operation of the facility

  • Must be prepared to respond to emergent situations

Direct Reports:

  • Assistant Director of Care

  • Professional Nurses (i.e., RNs; LPNs)

  • Nursing Clerk

  • Care Aides (i.e., RCAs)

  • The position primarily mentors staff to ensure the assessment of patient resident needs, planning, and implementation of nursing programs as well as co-ordinating ongoing education for nursing staff at the facility.

  • The compensation is competitive, provides substantial pension and benefit packages
